Summary: A field study was conducted to determine the influence of application volume and deposition aids on droplet spectrum and deposition for a fixed wing aerial application. The study involved using a turbine powered aircraft to apply four products designed to improve deposition in one and three gallon per acre tank mix solutions. The proper application parameters for making aerial applications of crop protection products are not fully understood. Concerns about application volumes (GPA), tank-mix components, droplet size, coverage, canopy deposition, and other critical application parameters are being commonly debated. This study has been designed to see if any differences can be measured as a result of increasing the application volume from one to three gallons per acre (when comparing deposition aid products). Percent area coverage and spray deposition rate (GPA) will be used to compare treatments. With the continued development of products designed to improve application performance, applicators seek to better facilitate making sound decisions regarding the addition of additional products into their tank mixes. This data framework should enable aerial operators to adapt into their operations.
