Boll weevil accessory gland development and pheromone production on prefruiting cotton

Problem:
Objective:
Approach: This area of research will be expanded this year to include overwintered and newly-eclosed weevils fed 4-leaf stage plants as well as cotyledon stage plants for 3, 6, 9, and 12 d.  Relationships between accessory gland development and pheromone production will also be examined.

   Significant Impact:

Preliminary studies last year indicated that a small proportion of overwintered weevils fed cotyledon stage plants for 7 or 10 d could produce trace amounts of some of the pheromone components.
