Evaluate pollen as an indicator of habitats stink bugs

Problem: Green and brown stink bugs are normally considered secondary insect pests on cotton.  However, they can become major insect pests with little warning.  Understanding the origin from where these pests dispersed is crucial to any management program.  Research on these insects has shown that pollen can be used as an indicator of localized dispersal.  Techniques for obtaining pollen from these pests have been developed and refined.
Objective: Examine pollen as an indicator of the dispersal of stink bugs and determine possible habitats from which stink bugs originated.
Approach: Green and brown stink bugs will be collected and examined for pollen.  Once the pollen is identified, field studies will be conducted to determine possible habitat and dispersal range.
