Age estimates of boll weevil adults collected in defoliated cotton

Problem: The potential for live boll weevils to be transported to the gin in cotton modules is unknown.
Objective: Estimate the age of weevils that may be transported to the gin.  Our hypothesis is that most of the adult weevils that end up in a module are newly emerged from unopened bolls on defoliated plants, and have not yet dispersed.
Approach: Use gas chromatography to obtain cuticular hydrocarbon profiles of weevils collected in defoliated cotton just before harvest to estimate the age of these weevils
