Droplet spectra classification of selected aerial spray nozzles

Problem: Spray nozzles that are not included in the USDA ARS atomization model set have been recommended for modeling by users and manufacturers.
Objective: Develop atomization models for narrow angle flat fan nozzles at helicopter airspeeds and ceramic disk core nozzles at fixed-wing airspeeds.
Approach: Selected spray nozzles will be obtained from manufacturers.  Wind tunnel atomization studies will be conducted to obtain a range of performance measures for these nozzles.  Atomization models will be developed from the wind tunnel data.  These models will be incorporated into interactive computer spreadsheet models and incorporated into the Unit website.

   Accomplishments:

Models for eighteen nozzles have been incorporated into an aerial applicators spray nozzle handbook.  The edited draft of the handbook has been returned to the editor for USDA ARS publication.
